Wynter Gordon takes her "Dirty Talk" to the clubs

I mentioned the rather fabulous Wynter Gordon and her track Dirty Talk on here awhile back. And since then she's announced that is to be released officially as a single with an album "With The Music I Die.." ( the title according to a flier on her official site) to follow later this year.

This is of course great news, I've been playing Dirty Talk loads in the last few months. It is basically Madonna's "Celebration" with a shopping list of sex positions/places/situations in place of lyrics and getting up and dancing. Not only that but it means we finally get to a Wynter Gordon logo, as evidenced on the single artwork below:

Magical.

The song already sounds quite club ready but there are some remixes on the way. Not least one from remixer du jour Laidback Luke whose already done remixes for Daft Punk, David Guetta (his reswizz of When Love Takes Over will be familiar to anyone who was out in a club in some shape or form in the last 12 months), Black Eyed Peas (click here to hear him rescue I Got A Feeling from the land of the terminally overplayed) and Calvin Harris. His mix is a potent jumble of rave-y synths and full on electro bleeps and will only help this song become the club juggernaut it needs to be.

The best evidence of just how monstrous this mix can be seen in the video below. It features Laidback Luke himself playing the mix in one of his sets. The first time I watched this I thought it was somebody filming a cute guy singing along to the track and loved the idea that this was the lone Wynter fan in the crowd. Then I realised this was in fact Laidback Luke going crazy to his own mix. Which makes more sense.

Dirty Talk is a surprising start for an artist who seems to be more as soulful/intense sort but a girl's got to start off somewhere. Still it should be an effective launch pad for one of the most talented internet buzz artists in awhile and at the very least allow to snag some slots writing for high profile artists. Needless to say, it's all very exciting.

And just for fun I've put the original version of Dirty Talk and Madge's Celebration beside each other so you can play them back to back and revel in the pop meets Ibiza house meets divas in battle glory. Enjoy!

Madonna, Felix Da Housecat and Fashion Photography

Today saw the release of Madonna’s new Greatest hits compilation “Celebration” in various parts of Europe. With the album now leaking online and readying itself for release across the world within in the next few days the hype has kicked in as Warner’s pimp out the M back catalogue for what I’m sure won’t be the last time. Looking at how things have gone with the

campaign got me thinking about various things, that seemed apt to discuss as the album takes off worldwide.

Along with the recently released video for “Celebration”, a new cut was unveiled this week. It still uses the Benny Benassi remix but this time alongside Madonna we see plenty of fans (many

of whom make a complete tit of themselves. There, I said it.) and Lourdes in the Like A Virgin wedding dress, following in her mother’s footsteps, future popstar blah blah blah.

Soon to come too is a double DVD of Madonna videos, which will have many a super fan all in a lather. I do love the coverart for the DVD, my favourite of the images presented in this campaign so far (image via MadonnaTribe) :

Anyway the roundabout reason for this post is a thought that occurred to me awhile back while watching the new Felix Da Housecat video, which feels like what Celebration should have looked like:

Both videos are aiming for “sweaty, sexy, people gyrate to some dance music” as a vibe but only one of them really gets it right. And it ain’t Madonna. Both videos feel like riffs on the hip people partying vibe portrayed by photographers on sites like I Can Teach You How To Do It and its Irish equivalent (I think anyway, I’m sure some would say it’s a bit classier) Can’t Leave Now. Off the cuff photos of the fashion/music/hipster types getting on down in various situations is always fascinating to me and its interesting to imagine what would have happened if Madonna had done something more like the Felix track in terms of visuals. Just a thought.

There are photos of one of Madonna’s recent shows in Europe on I Can Teach You How To Do It funnily enough which is my reason for this post, how all these seemingly separate pieces of popular culture all rub off each other. And isn’t that a more interesting thought than just musing over the (bit patchy if I’m being honest) new material on the new Madonna best of?

New Madonna Track: It's a Celebration

Madonna has her "Celebration" greatest hits coming up in September which is fronted by the Paul Oakenfold produced title track which leaked to the internet this week to the excitement of many. The single is available to stream now on Madonna.com

Before we do anything lets just take in the cover art for the single which I think is fantastic:

Madonna looks like she is on the piss, out to have indiscriminate casual sex with a stranger and smoke large cigars (perhaps in a suggestive manner). In other words, Madonna is on a night out. I love how this gets across her love of dance and her rhythm and also like someone who is slightly out of it. Brilliant.

The song itself is bouncy, joyous and a tad generic. But the good parts : thumping bass, catchy chorus, tongue in cheek lyrics make it stand out as a fantastic piece of club pop and one of the most enjoyable things Madonna has done in ages.

The lyrics are as underdeveloped as ever and her delivery is at times stupidly fast. I smell a lyrical top 5 coming on

5: "Lets get this started, no more hesitation" :

Madonna uses the word hesitation for the billionth time in a song. She obviously hopes that the word hesitate will become her new conical bra style trademark.

4: "If it makes you feel good, then I say do it" :

Is this what Madonna says everytime she does a 3 hour workout?

3: "Are you drunk or are you sober? Think about it, doesn't matter":

This is the philosophical dilemma faced by every person in a club who decides to suck face with someone completely drunk, feels bad about it and then decides that they don't care because they haven't kissed anyone in ages and if there were really going to start questioning their motives they probably wouldn't have had that last double vodka and redbull, wouldn't have hurled abuse at the girl at the cloakroom, wouldn't have told their friend that their pencil skirt does make them look bloated and probably wouldn't have spent their last five euro on said vodka/redbull. Isn't amazing how one lyric can so much? Beautiful.

2: "Haven't I seen you somewhere before? You look familiar"

Parts in pop songs where popstar speak instead of sing are usually entertaining and/or amazing. The spoken word part in "Celebration" is fantastic and is the sexiest Madonna has sounded in years. This lyrics is great for how it makes it sound like Madonna is prowling the club for that cute guy from last week but also the idea that she sees a photo of herself from 1983 and asks that same question.

1: "I guess I didn't recognise you without your clothes on"

Yet another amazing speaking part, I'd imagine this is aimed at Madonna's on/off boy toy Jesus "I'm quite frequently pictured in my underwear" Luz. I can picture M saying this to Jesus everytime he turns up to her house for a visit and is wearing more than just a smile. "Why aren't you naked?" Madonna barks "Because its cold out and I could get arrested?" retorts Jesus. "Fair enough" replies Madonna "I might just reference this moment in an upcoming song of mine, thanks for the inspiration".

Celebration may not be a "Like A Prayer" style classic but it is incredibly good fun and you will find yourself throwing shapes to this on the dancefloor within the next few months.
